Updated: Australia National & State COVID-19 Legislation For Commercial Tenants
The situation for commercial tenants negotiating with their landlords is changing all the time, and varies state-by-state. The National Cabinet Mandatory Code of Conduct remains in effect, since the JobKeeper program has now been extended to March 28 2021.
But each State and Territory has their own rules. NSW, Victoria and QLD just announced that their unique COVID-19 Leasing Regulations will be extended until the end of 2020. While WA, South Australia and the ACT have already committed to extending their measures into the new year. Tasmania and the NT remain the only jurisdictions where regulations haven’t been implemented.
With such an uncertain situation it’s crucial to know who to contact about your commercial lease, especially if your portfolio spans multiple states. Tenant Leasing Group are dedicated to staying on top of the new state-based commercial leasing regulations, to make sure we can negotiate hard for our clients.
